MEET YOUR TEAM: ELLIE

Somehow we scored. As soon as Ellie graduated with her Marketing and Communications degree we managed to convince her to slide into a full time position with us as our Editor/Account Manager. (Or maybe it was just our full size kitchen that lured her in?) Either way, our voice wouldn’t have nearly the sizzle without her ever growing vocabulary. Most importantly she shares our obsession with dogs, fitness and great food. You should also know that her handwriting is as impeccable as the recipes she whips up for lunch and is as meticulous as her knack for proofreading.

What is your position at Black Oak, and how did your background experience land you in this job?
Account Manager — I’ve always had an affinity for writing, so naturally, I chose to major in journalism. During my first few years in school, I worked for the campus newspaper and dabbled in freelance with some online and print publications. However, I soon realized I needed something more than just pen and paper. So I changed my major to Communications and Marketing. Eventually, I was lucky enough to land a job at Black Oak that has been a perfect fusion of all my background experience.

You’re on death row, what would your last meal be?
As a certified glu-tard, I really miss some good 'ole bread. So my final meal would consist of a French baguette dipped in olive oil and herbs as an app (seriously…it’s so hard watching everyone eat it at restaurants), a chicken bacon ranch thin crust pizza and my grandma’s chocolate bundt cake drowned with hot fudge and topped with a scoop of cookie dough ice cream. Gimme all the gluten!

What do you most value about Black Oak’s culture and vision?
We’re a family. We eat together, we workout together, we persevere together and succeed together. The fact that I still look forward to coming into work every day is huge in my books. I think it all whittles down to our foundation — be honest, be authentic and be thoughtful. These pillars have created an environment that encourages me to be sincere in everything I do and brave enough to try new things.

What is a skill you’ve developed while at Black Oak and what is a new one you have acquired?
Working at Black Oak has been monumental for my writing skills. Not only am I more efficient and concise, but I’ve also learned to write for numerous different platforms, from web copy to voice over scripts.

What’s in the bag you always bring to the office?
Ahh! My faithful cognac colored tote bag! It was so nice finally graduating from my grungy school backpacks. I guarantee I always have at least three notebooks in there (yes, it’s an obsession), a folder for all the papers I really should throw away but I horde instead. My laptop of course and spray to clean the screen (because OCD), a few shades of nude lip stain, a compact mirror and an aggressive amount of business cards.

Favorite Black Oak client?
Hands down Connelly Ski and Wake. Water skiing was my world growing up. It fueled my competitive passions, it created family bonds and it took me all over the country and world. I can sincerely thank water sports for creating some of the best memories of my life. Having the opportunity to work with and develop a brand that carries so much sentiment is next to none.

If you could be paid with something other than money, what would it be?
Unlimited access to anything at Whole Foods and IN-N-Out.
